Savvy Idea Home Projects

2009-2010 SAVVY Idea Home Remodeling Project

Showcases Local Talent and the Latest Technologies

The SAVVY Idea Home remodeling project in Fort Worth is nearing completion. We thank Dale Grandmaison of Grand Home Designs and Steve Parker Builders for their work on this project.

An extensive exterior rehab significantly enhanced the curb appeal and outdoor living qualities of the home and added essential safety features.

In the front, a new cedar arbor entry made the home more inviting by visually bringing it closer to the street and adding more interest. The arbor frames a new iron entry door, supplied by Elegante Iron replacing the non-descript and merely functional original entry and creating entry impact with a focal point door that more appropriately represents the value of the home/prestige of the neighborhood.  Ramon Roofing added a bronze standing seam metal roof to the entry arbor.

On the side, a similar cedar arbor added dimension, breaking up the current long rambling straight line of sight along the side of the home facing Ranch View. Garage Door Services supplied new cedar garage doors, and the unique fencing was a combined effort by Fortress Iron and  Fibertech Fencing, providing a permanent, no-maintenance solution.

Energy efficient windows and patio doors throughout the home were supplied by Entrada. A new stucco product, supplied by Decopierre replaced all exterior areas that were previously faced with cedar shakes to improve aesthetics and eliminate the fire hazard, while adding the most advanced insulative and water proofing qualities.  Lee Lighting provided new outdoor lighting including coach lighting and landscape lighting, adding both beauty and safety/security to the entire property surrounding the home and also provided new fixture throughout the home’s interior.

Extensive interior renovations will bring the home up to date and up to value in comparison to new homes being built in the same neighborhood.

Ceilings in the dining room, kitchen, wine room, master bedroom and bathroom and hallways were vaulted up to feature arches, barrels, groins and other unique applications manufactured and installed by Arch Tek. Behind the walls,  Korbin Insulation significantly enhanced the home’s R-Values. Liberty Drywall installed all the new surfaces.

The kitchen was gutted to feature new cabinets and granite surfaces by Allied Stone. Ferguson supplied new professional grade appliances.  Bosch washer and dryer were supplied by Texas ApplianceVinyard Wine Cellars converted an old storage closet into a spectacular wine room, featuring an iron door by Aaron’s Ornamental Iron and faux brick walls by Shantelle Wheeler of Wall Design DFW. Shantelle also added raised and embossed texture, Venetian plaster, faux metal ceiling tiles and glazing to many of the wall surfaces throughout the home.

Some of the original hardwood floors were preserved and refinished.   All other flooring surfaces were replaced by Arizona Tile under the supervision of AZT Interior Designer Claudia Lule.

Plumbing fixtures in the new master bath and replacements in all the other baths were supplied by B-K Plumbing Supply. B-K also supplied much of the home’s hardware throughout.

Adding new stain grade trim and interior doors supplied byTexas Door & Trim was yet another essential finishing touch.  Southwest Carpets supplied interior blinds and shutters.

A pool remodel by G & D Pool & Spa was final step to complete the project.
